Finding benefits in the Healing Trauma programme

From HMP Send, a female prisoner writes about her positive experiences and moving forward

Before I started the Healing Trauma programme, I was in a very difficult place, mentally, emotionally and physically. I have experienced every type of abuse from a young age: it seemed to me that it was never ending.

I was traumatised from it all and I needed to start healing. I found the first session difficult because I was unsure of the programme. I was scared of the emotions and memories I would feel and remember. I began as a very closed up individual and not comfortable.

As I attended more sessions I found I was able to feel more comfortable, less scared and more sure of the process the programme takes. The facilitators and officers were very empathetic, non-judgemental and understanding.

Each session taught me something valuable that I could use for life. I found the programme very helpful towards my healing process. I feel like I am on cloud nine thanks to the programme. I began to feel healing and now understand how to deal with my trauma. I recommend this programme to anyone who needs to find healing from any trauma. It helped me in so many ways.

I can begin to be happier and move forward with my life with a positive outlook.
