The Build

Great progress has been made at Hope Street over the past couple of months. It was really exciting seeing the scaffolding coming off the residential building in September, and we are delighted that the flats are now almost complete. The windows have now been installed, the bathrooms tiled, and the front doors fitted. All that remains are the finishing touches to help the flats feel like home - we have started placing orders for furniture and home décor!

In October we celebrated the ‘topping out’ of the Hub buildings. In construction, the term ‘topping out’ refers to the installation of the final piece of structure, or the completion of the roof on a building. This provided a great opportunity to reflect on all the amazing progress that's been made so far, and to look forward to the future of Hope Street.

We are now looking forward to the garden landscaping to begin in November. Designed to promote healing, the gardens will offer a space for calm and reflection for women at Hope Street. We are busy placing orders for the trees and plants, and look forward to sharing more progress on the garden with you in the coming months.

Activities at Hope Street

On 27th October we held our celebration event for the 11 women who have just completed an eight week ‘Creating Change’ programme, provided in partnership with BearFaced Theatre. Creating Change is a participatory arts programme that invites women on probation to come together to share a positive experience. Through carefully selected tasks focusing on teamwork, joy and empathy the group then embark on making something creative together. Each programme ends with a celebratory sharing of whatever the women have produced - poems, photographs, video material and personal contributions. The programme encourages reflection and expressive thinking through playful togetherness. In a connected environment everyone is encouraged to listen and each voice is heard, increasing trust, self-esteem and agency.

We are participating in The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2022!

We are excited that One Small Thing has been selected to participate in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2022, the UK’s largest match funding campaign. We will be raising money for Hope Street with donations to our campaign page being doubled for 7 days from 12 pm on 29th November. One donation, twice the impact!

Add a reminder to your calendar for 29th November – 6th December including our campaign page.
